For a thermo balance it is always
a challenge to test carbon black-filled or oxidation-sensitive polymer
compounds correctly regarding quantity.
No problem with the new TG 209 F3 Tarsus.
The plot shows a polyethylene filled with 1.8 % carbon black. After
switching over from inert gas atmosphere (nitrogen) to oxidizing
atmosphere (synthetic
air) at 850°C the added carbon black burns to carbon dioxide. There
is no residue.
